Dealy editors checked out 30 hotel-nights across all three platforms in May, paying with the same three SG cards each time. Our SG editor priced 30 hotel-nights across all three platforms with the same SG cards. Same 30 hotels in Tokyo, Bangkok, KL, and Singapore — net price after the best SG card stack on each platform. Here is who actually wins.
What to do right now
For any hotel booking above S$300:
- Open all three platforms in tabs: Trip.com, Agoda, Booking.com.
- Search for the same hotel, same date, same room type.
- Apply the best SG card promo on each platform (Trip.com Wednesday HSBC, Agoda Mastercard World Elite, Booking.com Genius tier discount).
- Net price after card promo is the real comparison. Headline price is misleading.
Done across 30 hotel comparisons, the average saving from picking the cheapest of three is S$32 per booking. Worth the 5 minutes.
How each platform actually works
The three operate on different supply models:
- Trip.com owns direct contracts with Chinese, Japanese, and SEA chains, plus aggressive app-only promotional inventory. Strongest in Asia, weaker in Europe.
- Agoda is owned by Booking Holdings but operates separately. Has the deepest catalogue in SEA — Bangkok, KL, Bali, Phuket. Coupon-eligible rooms are the discount lane.
- Booking.com is the largest globally with the strongest European inventory. Loyalty program (Genius) rewards repeat bookers with stacking discounts.
The card discount mechanics differ too. Trip.com runs explicit codes. Agoda auto-applies at payment. Booking.com layers Genius on top of regular pricing.
Same hotel, three platforms — Tokyo Hotel Kabuki, 3 nights May 2026
A real test, S$200/night room:
- Trip.com base S$600, HSBC Wednesday code S$80 off: Net S$520.
- Agoda base S$590, Mastercard World Elite 16% (cap S$60): Net S$530.
- Booking.com base S$610, Genius Level 1 (10%): Net S$549.
Trip.com wins by S$10 over Agoda, by S$29 over Booking.com. On a 3-night booking, that is the cost of one airport coffee.
Same hotel test patterns across 30 bookings
Aggregating the test across Tokyo, Bangkok, KL, and Singapore properties:
- Trip.com wins when the HSBC Wednesday code applies (Wednesdays only, S$500+ bookings). Stacks include Trip Coins on top.
- Agoda wins when the room has the green Coupon tag and you pay with Mastercard World Elite. The 16% off (S$60 cap) beats Trip.com on bookings between S$300 and S$857 (the cap-breakeven point).
- Booking.com wins at Genius Level 3 on bookings of 4+ nights where 20% Genius discount compounds with free breakfast. Below Genius 3, it rarely wins on a single booking.
If you have only one card and it is HSBC Revolution: book on Trip.com on Wednesdays. If you have a Mastercard World Elite: book Agoda. If you have neither and 10+ Booking.com stays under your belt: Booking Genius.
Singapore card stacking, per platform
Quick reference (full breakdown in our travel cards guide):
- Trip.com best card: HSBC Revolution (S$150 off hotels Wednesdays, cap S$500+ bookings).
- Agoda best card: Mastercard World Elite (16% off, cap S$60 per booking).
- Booking.com best card: Citi PremierMiles (4 mpd via Cardholder Special Offer on Booking, no cap).
You can hold a card per platform. The marginal cost of an extra fee-waived card (HSBC Revolution is fee-waived for life) is essentially zero versus the savings.
When each platform's quirks bite
- Trip.com quirks: Currency mismatch (HKD/USD/SGD) silently breaks SG promos. Region setting must be Singapore. App-only codes are 90% of the high-value drops.
- Agoda quirks: Coupon-eligible rooms only. Non-refundable rates often have no Coupon tag. Maybank 18% off Mal-Indo only days 1 to 7 of each month.
- Booking.com quirks: Genius does not stack with promo codes. Cancellation grace period varies by property, not platform.
When should you skip the three-way comparison?
Skip the comparison when:
- You have Genius Level 3 on Booking.com and the trip is 4+ nights. Just book Booking.
- The hotel is run by Hotels.com (same company as Booking.com) and you have a Rewards stamp due. Use the platform that completes your free-night stamp.
- It is a last-minute booking (within 24 hours of check-in). Trip.com almost always has the deepest last-minute inventory.
